Boyd Tavern welcomes Lafayette en route to Monticello
8:00am - 9:15am
Boyd Tavern, 1890 Union Mills Rd, Troy, VA

In June 1781, the Marquis de Lafayette visited the Ordinary when he and his regiment were camped nearby during their campaign to block British forces under Cornwallis. General Lafayette returned to Boyd Tavern during his Farewell Tour on November 4th, 1824. He arrived at Boyd Tavern, which was near the Fluvanna County line, to be greeted by the Committee of Arrangements from Albemarle County. After the welcome speeches, they moved inside the tavern to dine. Then Lafayette was escorted up the mountain to Monticello.
Come witness Wm Cabell Rives welcome General Lafayette as in 1824 before he heads up the mountain to Monticello. After the ceremony, Boyd Tavern which is now a private home, will be open for a continental breakfast and tours. Then we will follow Lafayette and head up to Monticello (15 minute drive) for our wonderful day with Thomas Jefferson and Lafayette.
