UPDATE Lafayette returns to Jersey City’s Bergen neighborhood with a ceremony at the Museum of Jersey City History at the Apple Tree House at 298 Academy St. from Noon to 1PM.
The presentation is a collaboration of the American Friends of Lafayette with the Jersey City Museum of History on Lafayette Day in Jersey City and will involve a reenactment of the 1824 presentation of an apple tree cane to General Lafayette. The Rev. Jon Brown, current pastor at Old Bergen Church, will be presenting an apple tree cane to Lafayette (portrayed by Michael Halbert) just as his long ago predecessor, Dominie John Cornelison, did back in 1824 at the Five Corners. The French American Academy of Jersey City will be gracing us with a performance by its students. The ceremony will be followed by a reception.
