The American Society of Le Souvenir Français, Inc. will proudly unveil an interpretive marker dedicated to the enlightenment and enjoyment of the thousands of tourists who visit annually one of America's most famous battlegrounds, the site of the allied 1781 French-American victory.
The crucial role of the French Navy, whose naval victory at the Battle of the Capes and the ensuing blockade of British forces enabled the victorious siege of Yorktown, will be properly honored with this new marker.
This interpretive marker will be the latest addition to a series of markers, sculptures, and memorials dotting Yorktown's famous Riverwalk.
The American Society of Le Souvenir Français, Inc. and all the Plaque Committee Members are particularly grateful to Ms. Katie Meis and Mr. Darren Williams of York County and to Dr. Robert A. Selig, Ph.D, one of the leading historians of the French-American alliance during the Revolutionary War, who graciously wrote the text of this interpretive marker, who will be present at this dedication.
