THE LAFAYETTE ESCADRILLE

By Pierre Oury

ARE YOU READY FOR THE MOST INTERESTING LAFAYETTE STORY?

The Lafayette Escadrille explained by a USAF Fighter Pilot !!!!!!

Pierre Oury is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and a Captain for United Airlines, based in Washington DC. He spent over three decades in military and civilian aviation, flying fighter jets for the Air Force before becoming an airline pilot, and along the way held senior posts at the Pentagon and at U.S. Air Force headquarters in Europe, working on partnerships between the American military and allied air forces abroad.

As a first generation American, Pierre has deep, personal ties to France — he's fluent in French, splits time between the U.S. and France, and today runs his own consulting firm advising on international aviation and defense partnerships. He's long been active in preserving the shared history between France and the United States, including supporting many commemorations and veteran travel to Normandy, and he's a proud member of the American Friends of Lafayette. As a lifelong aviator himself, he brings a pilot's-eye perspective to the story of the Lafayette Escadrille — the young American volunteers who flew for France before the U.S. even entered the First World War.
