During His Farewell Tour, Lafayette was in Rhode Island for only ONE DAY

August 23rd, 1824

The Lafayette Bicentennial In Rhode Island Committee is commemorating this important Day in history with a day of activities that culminates with a dinner/ball at the Masonic Grand Lodge of Rhode Island.


This evening will have it all...

  • A scrumptious French meal highlighted with, Onion Soup, Bistro Salad, Boeuf Bourguignon, Coq Au Vin, Ratatouille, Pot Au Chocolat and Lemon Tarts.
  • Several varietals of Lafayette Wine from Williamsburg Winery will be on hand for everyone to enjoy.
  • General Lafayette will be there.  He will offer greetings, lively conversation and photo opportunities.
  • You will meet two generations of Lafayette descendants as our guests of honor will include Virginie Bureaux de Pusy-Dumottier de Lafayette and Héloïse and Adélaïde Barbier-Dumottier de Lafayette, 7th and 8th generation descendants of the Marquis de Lafayette.
  • Music & Dancing will be provided by La Capricieuse: playing French folk and dance music. Instruction for the dance steps will be provided before the dances.
  • Period clothing is encouraged (business or cocktail attire also permitted)
  • You will meet Stephen Olney Almy, a decedent of Stephen Olney, who served under Lafayette with Alexander Hamilton at Yorktown, taking redoubt #10.  Lafayette and Olney famously met again on August 23rd 1824 .
  • The historic and majestic Masonic lodge will be open for visitors.  Special items on display will include Lafayette’s masonic apron and the jewel Gen. Nathanael Greene presented to the Marquis for his uniform.
  • The social hour begins at 6pm, dinner at 7pm followed by music, dancing and entertainment from 8pm to 10pm.
  • It all happens at the Masonic Grand Lodge of Rhode Island, 222 Taunton Avenue, East Providence, RI 02914
  • The price for this historic evening is $150 per person
